BALTIMORE, MD – Starting Pitcher
Kieren Collins sent the top-ranked Johns Hopkins baseball team to the NCAA Regional Finals for the third-straight year with a dominant 8-3 victory over Rutgers-Camden on Saturday afternoon at Babb Field.
Collins couldn't have asked for a better start from his offense in his 30
th-career win - the most all-time in Johns Hopkins history. The Blue Jays (41-3) wasted no time taking the lead – one held for the remainder of the game –on a three-run homer in the first frame from senior slugger
Dillon Souvignier.
Collins tossed three shutout innings going into the fourth, before the Scarlet Raptors (30-16) struck. Rutgers-Camden plated one in the fourth and two in the fifth – on a
Ryan Nutley sacrifice fly and a pinch-hit two-run home run from
Brice Bradley.
However, everything the Scarlet Raptors did, the Blue Jays matched. Hopkins plated a run in the fourth and two in the fifth to keep the three-run lead intact, 6-3.
Lukas Geer singled up the middle to drive in the game's fourth run, before
Caleb Cyr clubbed a two-run home run, extending the lead back to three.
To assure advancement into the regional final, Geer extended Hopkins' lead to five with a two-run double in the sixth, 8-3.
After giving up three runs over two innings, Collins returned to throw an additional three scoreless innings, making way for
Thomas Cancian to collect the final three outs.
Collins improved to 8-1 on the season, hurling a season-high 8.0 innings, surrendering seven hits, three earned runs and a walk, striking out eight.
Hopkins will play the winner of Rutgers-Camden-RPI tomorrow at 11 AM in the 2025 NCAA Regional Final.
