SEWANEE, TN – Host Sewanee scored four goals in a 17-minute span midway through the second half to beat 18
th-ranked Johns Hopkins, 4-0, Saturday night. The Blue Jays fall to 1-1-0 on the season while the Tigers improve to 1-0-1.
Sewanee broke open the scoreless tie in the 60
th minute when Alpha Bah played the ball into the right side of the box and Tyler Scott one-timed it home from about six yards out. The Tigers then scored twice in 37 seconds in the 69
th minute. Grayson White made it a 2-0 game when he banged home a short pass from Wells Durham.
White made it two in a row and pushed the Tigers' lead to three when he converted a penalty kick. Isaac Rasheed capped the scoring burst in the 77
th minute to put Sewanee up 4-0. Rasheed ran onto a long ball from goalie Nathan Vanhoeve and buried it from 15 yards out.
Ryan Aiken and
Simon Turner split time in the goal for the Blue Jays. Aiken got the start and made three saves in the first half. Turner came on at the half and also had three saves in the second. Vanhoeve finished with five saves to earn the shutout for Sewanee.
Hopkins returns to action on Friday, September 5 as the Blue Jays visit the Kenyon Owls. Game time at Mavec Field is slated for 5:15 pm.
