NORTHFIELD, MN – Fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins wrapped up a weekend in the Land of 10,000 Lakes with a 3-0 win Sunday afternoon. JHU got goals from three different Blue Jays to beat the host St. Olaf Oles in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
Caroline Marcus scored what proved to be the game-winner in just the 28
th minute.
Megha Salvi played the ball to
Tatum Adamson down on the endline. Adamson dribbled into the box before dropping the ball back to Marcus, who scored on a one-timer from about seven yards out.
Maria Romo-Nichols doubled the Blue Jays lead in the 56
th minute when she collected a pass from
Carolyn Johnson in the box, cut back on her defender and fired a shot into the left side of the goal. Salvi closed out the scoring in the 82
nd minute with a rocket from 20 yards out.
Hopkins outshot St. Olaf, 16-5, and had a 5-1 advantage in corners.
Ella Kruntchev got the start in the goal and made two saves in nearly 86 minutes of action.
Eva Breiland came on in the in the 86
th minute and was not forced to make a save to preserve the shutout. Charlotte Percy made six saves in the loss for the Oles.
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, September 3 when the Blue Jays take on the eighth-ranked Messiah Falcons. JHU's home opener is slated for a 7:00 pm start at Homewood Field.
