Johns Hopkins and St. Mary's Battle to a 3-3 Tie

ST. MARY'S CITY, MD – Johns Hopkins and host St. Mary's battled to a wild 3-3 tie on Wednesday night in non-conference action. The Blue Jays are now 2-2-1 on the season while the Seahawks are 2-3-1.

St. Mary's needed just 62 seconds to get on the board as William Marbay chipped in a ball from Braden Kindred to give the Seahawks the early lead. A little over five minutes later, the home team grabbed a two-goal lead. Nick Haney collected a pass from Lucas Evans in the box and then chipped the ball into the Blue Jay net for the early 2-0 lead.

Hopkins got on the board in the 23rd minute to kick-start a three-goal run for the Blue Jays. Amid a scramble in the box, Brendan Listzwan found a wide-open Jackson Shapiro, and he scored from in-tight to make it 2-1. Scotty Coleman then scored his first goal of the season to level the score in the 34th minute. Again, it was Listzwan with the helper, finding Bruzzone behind his defender and he volleyed the tying goal past Jordan Eckman.

The second half started nearly identical to the first, but this time it was Hopkins getting the quick score. Coleman and Alex Gardner combined on a great give-and-go just 49 seconds in as the Blue Jays grabbed the lead off Coleman's second of the night. But St. Mary's would not go away, and the Seahawks got the equalizer in the 71st minute. Jack Nelson buried a short pass from Kindred in the middle of the box.

Hopkins finished with a 19-9 advantage in shots and a 14-4 advantage in corners. John Ghanem made a pair of saves in the net for the Blue Jays while Eckman finished with six for the Seahawks.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, September 13 as the Blue Jays host the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders. Game time for JHU's home opener is slated for 4:00 pm.
