Johns Hopkins Falls at 18th-Ranked Brown, 19-11

PROVIDENCE, RI – Host and 18th-ranked Brown jumped out to a 5-0 lead and went on to beat Johns Hopkins, 19-11, Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Bruno Invite. The Blue Jays fall to 10-3 on the season while the Bears improve to 9-2.
 
Five different Bears scored in the opening quarter as the home team grabbed the early 5-0 lead. Brody Mars got the Blue Jays on the board at the 6:22-mark in the second. Brown responded with a 5-1 run to push its lead to 10-2 with 38 seconds to play before the half.
 
Max Blecher scored for Hopkins with 18 ticks on the clock but Mac Berry answered for Brown with just one second left to make it an 11-3 game at the break. Iason Mihalopoulos opened the scoring in the third, just 55 seconds in and the teams would trade scores over the ensuing four minutes. Leading 13-6, the Bears got back-to-back goals from Ilias Stothart and Ramzi Megall to push their lead to nine.
 
The Blue Jays responded with a 4-2 spurt, fueled by a pair of Patrick Rooney goals, to make it a 17-10 game with 3:37 to go. Brown came right back with goals from Megalli and Berry to extend its lead back to nine. Gavin Brooke closed out the scoring with a six-on-five goal with 12 seconds to play.
 
Rooney and Mars led the Blue Jays with three goals and four points each. Blecher (1g, 1a) and Ben Lucas (2a) added two points apiece. Mihalopoulos had a team-best three drawn ejections to go with his goal. Kyle Pearson and Chris Poisler shared time in the cage, finishing with six saves each.
 
Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, September 28 when Mount St. Mary's visits Baltimore. The Blue Jays' home opener is scheduled for a 5:00 pm start.
