CHESTER, PA – Johns Hopkins and Widener, meeting for the first time in 30 years, battled to a scoreless draw on Wednesday night in non-conference action. The Blue Jays are now 2-3-4 on the season and the Pride are 1-5-2.
Javi Ordonez looked to get the Blue Jays on the board late in the first half with a low sneaky shot from 30 yards out that just skipped wide with 15 seconds left.
Simon Turner made a save in the middle of the box on Jordi Lopez off a breakaway in the 52
nd minute to keep the game scoreless. Less than two minutes later, the Pride's Michael Burckley rang a shot off the crossbar.
Giulian Laudisa had a left-footed shot from the top of the box in the 60
th minute but Tristan Riley was able to corral the shot.
Hopkins outshot Widener, 14-10, and corners were even at three apiece. Turner finished with two saves and Riley made to as well for the Pride.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, September 27 as the Blue Jays visit the Haverford Fords. The Centennial Conference contest is slated for a 12:00 pm start.
