Johns Hopkins Sweeps Washington & Lee and TCNJ

BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins returned to the pool on Saturday and earned wins over 13th-ranked TCNJ (150.5-111.5) and Washington & Lee (182-80). The Blue Jays improve to 6-1 on the season.
 
Hopkins opened the day with first, third and fourth-place finishes in the 400 Medley Relay. Aden Li, Larry Yu, Avery Clapp and Michael Ivanov grabbed the win for the Blue Jays in 3:18.91, beating the Lions by just four-hundredths of a second. Dylan Jewett, Jonathan Wang, Kai Henrikson-Brandt and Christian Mayr took third in 3:23.46. And Bryce Lloyd, Carl Stauffer, Rad Couture and Justin Ely placed fourth in 3:25.56.
 
Josiah March placed second in the 1000 Free as he touched in 9:39.00, followed by Jack Cornish in 9:40.52. Yu then finished in second in the 200 Free with a swim of 1:41.79, while Ken Ning placed fourth in 1:42.76. Henrikson-Brandt won the 100 Back in 49.88 and Jewett placed second in 50.56. Ivanov followed with a second-place finish in the 100 Breast (57.18).
 
Clapp took the top spot in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:50.91 with Li claiming second in 1:52.24. Couture then finished in fourth place in 1:54.64. Mayr placed third in the 50 Free in 21.49, followed closely by Ely just four-hundredths of a second later. Ivanov then took fourth in 100 Free with a swim of 46.85 with Mayr taking fifth in 47.24.
 
Lloyd led a Blue Jay sweep of the top three spots in the 200 Back. He clocked in at 1:51.14 for the win, with Jewett taking second (1:52.63) and Matthew Hartshorn taking third (1:54.68). Yu followed with a win in the 200 Breast, touching the wall in 2:04.08. Ely finished in third place with a swim of 2:07.96. March and Cornish then went one-two in the 500 Free. March earned the win in 4:41.39, with Cornish finishing in 4:42.18.
 
Clapp swam to a second-place finish in the 100 Fly with a time of 49.52. Henrikson-Brandt placed fourth (50.97) and Couture tied for fifth (51.04). In the final individual event, Ivanov led JHU with a third-place finish and a swim of 1:56.24.
 
Hopkins ended the meet with a win and fourth-place finish in the 200 Free Relay. Li, Mayr, Clapp and Yu grabbed the win with a time of 1:23.87. Adam Sandid, Henrikson-Brandt, Ely and Lloyd finished in fourth in 1:25.32.
 
JHU is back in action on Friday, January 16 as the Blue Jays host the Swarthmore Garnet. The meet is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start at the Barbara & Jerry Procton Pool.
