BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins jumped out to a 21-point lead just 14 minutes into the game and didn't look back en route to a 93-64 win over Washington College Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 11-3 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference while the Shoremen slip to 10-4 and 0-2 in the conference.
Hopkins trailed 11-8 early after a Jaedon Harris triple.
Gil Otoo answered with back-to-back threes to ignite a methodical 44-12 run that spanned nearly 15 minutes. Nine different Blue Jays scored during the run that saw the JHU go from a three-point deficit to a 29-point lead with 55 ticks on the clock. JHU held Washington College to just 4-of-21 from the floor and forced five turnovers during the run.
Max Portnoy had the final say of the half, hitting a jumper to make it 52-25 at the break. Ty Woodland and Noah Waldon sandwiched buckets around a
Charlie Jackson layup to open the second and it was 54-29 Hopkins. Jackson followed that with back-to-back baskets to spark a quick 11-2 run, capped by an Otoo triple and the lead ballooned to 34 with 15:26 to play.
Harris and David Carr halted the run with consecutive buckets, but the Blue Jays came right back. Jackson and
Nick Klaiber combined for 10 points to fuel a 12-2 Hopkins' run, capped by a
Dan Becil layup that gave JHU a 77-37 lead at the 11:19-mark. The Shoremen weren't going away however and put together a 26-12 spurt over the ensuing 10 minutes to trim the deficit back to 26 with 83 seconds to play.
Jackson scored a game-high 23 points, including the 800
th of his career, in just 21 minutes and grabbed eight rebounds. Otoo finished with a season-best 17 points, going 5-of-8 from downtown. Williams tied for the team lead with eight rebounds to go with seven points. Waldon led the Shoremen with 11 points, while Harris added 10.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, January 17 as the Blue Jays visit the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats. Tip-off at the Mayser Center is slated for 3:00 pm.
