BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins fell to host and second-ranked New York University, 173-89, on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays slip to 7-2 in dual meets this season.
Hopkins took second in the 200 Medley Relay to open the meet.
Aden Li,
Larry Yu,
Avery Clapp and
Michael Ivanov combined for a time of 1:31.75 to place second.
Jack Cornish (9:52.80) and
Josiah March (9:57.44) then finished in third and fourth, respectively in the 1000 Free.
Yu swam a 1:43.01 in the 200 Free to beat NYU's Misha Kabunov by 0.13 seconds for second place.
Larkin Helman took fifth in 1:44.03.
Dylan Jewett placed third in the 100 Back (51.32), followed by
Bryce Lloyd in fourth (51.61). Ivanov then took fourth place in the 100 Free with a time of 58.17.
Li grabbed a win for the Blue Jays when he beat the field to the wall in 200 Fly. He won by more than 1.3 seconds with a swim of 1:52.17. Clapp finished in third place as he clocked in at 1:54.26.
Jonathan Wang led the Blue Jays in the 50 Free with a fifth-place finish (21.93).
Ivanov took second place in the 100 Free with a swim of 46.92. The Blue Jays then took second through fourth in the 200 Back. Clapp led the trio with a time of 1:52.31, followed by Lloyd (1:53.65) and
Kai Henrikson-Brandt (1:55.04). Yu earned another second-place finish, this time placing second in the 200 Breast in 2:06.34.
Julian Maycock finished in fourth place in 2:08.94.
Ken Ning placed third in the 500 Free as he clocked in at 4:44.58, with March taking fifth (4:45.42). Li earned his second win of the afternoon and swept the Butterfly events with a time of 49.88 in the 100. He won the event by 0.88 seconds. In the final individual event, JHU took second, third and fourth in the 200 IM. Helman paced the Blue Jays with a swim of 1:54.96, followed by
Matthew Hartshorn (1:56.13) and
Willi Dunlap (1:57.00).
Hopkins closed out the meet by taking first and fourth in the 400 Free Relay. Clapp, Yu, Ivanov and Li earned the win with a time of 3:05.95. The Blue Jays trailed the Violets by 1.09 seconds after 300 yards and Li closed with a swim of 45.85 to grab the win for JHU. The team of
Adam Sandid,
Rad Couture, Lloyd and Jewett finished in fourth place (3:12.29).
Hopkins is back in the pool in two weeks as the Blue Jays host the William & Mary Tribe on January 31. JHU's final dual meet of the season is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start.
