LANCASTER, PA – After an undefeated 2-0 week that included a pair of wins over conference rivals McDaniel and Muhlenberg, Johns Hopkins freshman
Jocelyn Goldstein has been named the Centennial Conference Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday. The honor marks the first weekly conference award of Goldstein's career and the second of the season for the Blue Jays.
Goldstein helped power the Blue Jays to a 2-0 week with wins over McDaniel and Muhlenberg, as the team improved to 16-0 overall and 7-0 in conference play, remaining one of just five unbeaten teams in Division III. The freshman averaged 13.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting an efficient 68.4% from the floor (13-of-19) in just 23.7 minutes per contest.
Against McDaniel, Goldstein led all scorers with 20 points on 10-of-15 (.667) shooting, while pulling down nine rebounds—six on the offensive end—to go along with three blocks and a steal in a 72-56 victory. She followed that performance with seven points on 3-of-4 (.750) shooting, five rebounds and an assist in just 17 minutes of action in a 36-point win over Muhlenberg (72-36).
Her 20 points against McDaniel made her the first freshman in more than 30 years to score 20-plus points twice in a season, a feat last accomplished during the 1994–95 campaign by
Angie Arnold '98 (three times) and
Julie Anderson '98 (twice).
Johns Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, January 28, when it hosts conference foe Dickinson inside Goldfarb Gymnasium for its annual PRIDE night. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
