BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins scored all three of its goals in the second half to beat visiting Washington College Saturday night in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays improve to 8-3-2 overall and 4-0-1 in the conference, while the Shoremen slip to 2-5-5 and 0-4-1.
Connor Wilkes scored what turned out to be the game-winner in the 52
nd minute after he was fouled 25 yards out. He took the kick himself, blasting a shot inside the left post for his third goal in the last four games. Almost exactly nine minutes later,
Brendan Listzwan finished off a great sequence to stake Hopkins to a 2-0 lead. The Blue Jays quickly worked the ball up field off a goal kick.
Rohan Aggarwal centered the ball to
Jacob Sardinha at midfield. He sprung Listzwan, who dribbled into the box, before cutting back on his defender and burying a shot to the back post.
Alex Gardner capped the scoring in the 83
rd minute with a great turn around shot in the middle of the box.
Dusty Dwyer chipped the ball towards
Paul Sapilewski and the WC box. He volleyed the ball back to Aggarwal, who slotted a pass through the defense to Gardner. He settled the ball, and with five defenders around him, turned and fired the ball under the crossbar.
John Ghanem got the start in goal and made a pair of saves before giving way to
Ryan Aiken in the 85
th minute. Aiken added a save to preserve the shutout for the Blue Jays. Hannes Buddes finished with four saves in the loss for the Shoremen.
JHU outshot the visitors 12-6 while Washington College had a 4-2 advantage in corners.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, October 17 as it hosts Franklin & Marshall. The Centennial Conference contest is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start.
