NORTHFIELD, MN – The Johns Hopkins women's cross country team split its squad Saturday morning, with the Blue Jays competing at the Running of the Cows, hosted by Carleton College, and the Don Cathcart Invitational, hosted by Salisbury University.
At the Running of the Cows, Hopkins placed third in a field of 35 teams with 176 points, finishing behind team champion Williams (79 points) and Wisconsin-La Crosse (141 points). At the Don Cathcart Invitational, five Blue Jays represented Hopkins, with all five finishing inside the top 20.
In Minnesota, junior
Carter Brotherton led the way for the Blue Jays, placing fifth overall in a field of 326 runners. Brotherton crossed the finish line in 21:29.5, just 22 seconds behind the individual winner.
Sydney Shock followed with a 14th-place finish in 21:51.3, just 22 seconds behind Brotherton.
Abby Artabane crossed next in 51st in 22:27.0, finishing as the fifth-fastest freshman in the field, while
Natalie Boquist placed 53rd in 22:30.2.
Diana Valentini rounded out Hopkins' scoring five, finishing 65th in 22:36.0.
At Salisbury's 38th annual Don Cathcart Invitational, junior
Storrie Kulynych-Irvin led a contingent of five Blue Jays who all finished inside the top 20. Kulynych-Irvin placed fourth overall in a field of 87 runners, clocking a 21:38.7 and finishing just 15 seconds behind the individual winner.
Evangeline Dunckley followed closely behind in sixth with a 21:43.8, while
Isis Diaz placed 11th in 22:02.1.
Miriam Rule crossed next in 13th in 22:09.7, finishing as the fifth-fastest freshman in the field.
Sofia Fernandez rounded out the Hopkins contingent with a 20th-place finish in 22:52.4.
Johns Hopkins returns to action Saturday, October 17, when the Blue Jays travel to Gettysburg College to compete in the Aubrey Shenk Invitational.
