HAVERFORD, PA – The second-ranked Johns Hopkins men's cross country team dominated the field Saturday afternoon at Haverford College, capturing its fifth consecutive Centennial Conference championship behind the individual champion, the top three finishers and six of the top 10 overall. The Blue Jays totaled just 17 points, the second-lowest team score in program history, to secure their seventh overall Centennial title, all of which have come since 2013.
No. 22 Haverford, which placed three runners in the top 10, finished second in the team standings with 44 points. Swarthmore (91), Dickinson (123) and Ursinus (156) rounded out the top five.
Sophomore
Caleb Tenney added his name to the record book, becoming just the third athlete in program history, and fifth overall, to claim the individual championship. He crossed the finish line in 24:20.0, edging teammate
Brady Ott, who took second in 24:25.7. The Blue Jays followed up last year's sweep of the top three spots with another dominant performance, as freshman
Edward Stout finished third in 24:32.8, just six seconds behind Ott. Stout was also the only freshman in the field to finish among the top 10.
Johns Hopkins' depth was once again on full display as the Blue Jays placed seven runners in the top 14. Sophomore
Cedar Nichols-Barnhart finished fifth in 24:42.9, while
Anthony Clark led the next group of finishers, placing sixth in 24:56.4 to round out the team's scoring five. Junior
Dane Spahr and sophomore
Henry Zhe-Heimerman completed the Blue Jays' impressive showing with a 10
th and 14
th-place finish in 25:07.9 and 25:16.0, respectively.
Stout's third-place finish was the second-highest finish by a freshman in Centennial Conference history. He was also one of just two freshmen to place in the top 25. With their performances, Tenney, Ott, Stout, Nichols-Barnhart, Clark, Spahr and Zhe-Heimerman all earned All-Centennial Conference honors. The top 14 individual finishers earn all-conference recognition, with the top seven named to the First Team and places eight through 14 earning Second Team honors.
