Johns Hopkins Cruises to Six Wins at MACFA Round Robin

BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins dropped a total of just 12 bouts en route to six wins at the MACFA A vs C round robin Sunday. JHU grabbed wins over Rutgers, Lafayette, Maryland, Navy, Haverford and Drew to improve to 19-3 on the season.
 
Hopkins kicked off the day with a 26-1 win over Rutgers. Lauren Prieur, Adele Dai and Alexis Li combined for nine wins to lead the Sabre squad. Rosy Cepero, Sophia Baleeiro and Nina Markovsky did the same for the Foil squad. And in the Epee, Mickey Zhang and Nicole Yu won three bouts each to lead the Jays to an 8-1 win.
 
JHU then beat Lafayette, 25-2. Li, Josephine Chang and Maddie Huang led the Sabre squad with three wins each. Cepero and Markovsky did the same for the Foil squad in a 9-0 win, while Yu won each of her three bouts in a 7-2 win for the Epee squad.
 
The Blue Jays grabbed a 26-1 win over the Maryland Terrapins. Huang, Adelaide Benoit and Maya Balakumaran won three bouts each in a 9-0 win for the Sabre squad. Adrianne Lin and Camille Oteyza combined for six wins and the Foil squad won 8-1. In the Epee, Mariela Abramson, Janie McSweeney and Thansi Garikipati led the Jays to a 9-0 win.
 
Hopkins followed with a 23-4 win over Navy. Prieur and Benoit combined for six wins to pace the Sabre squad to an 8-1 win. Cepero, Markovsky and Baleeiro then won two bouts each in an 8-1 win for the Foil squad. Garikipati went unbeaten in three bouts to lead the Epee squad to a 7-2 win.
 
The Blue Jays then topped the Haverford Fords, 25-2. Chang, Dai and Balakumaran led the Sabre squad to another shutout. Cepero won each of her three bouts in a 9-0 win for the Foil squad and Yu did the same in a 7-2 win for the Epee squad.
 
Hopkins closed out the day with a 25-2 win over Drew. Huang and Jesse Tong won three bouts each and the Sabre squad won 8-1. Bethany Lee and Julianna Wu did the same in an 8-1 win by the Foil squad. And in the Epee, Zhang, McSweeney and Anika Kale combined for a 9-0 win.
 
Cepero now counts 277 wins in her career and needs just six to tie Jackie Heath for most Foil wins in program history. Lee moved into third place in school history with 225 career Foil wins.
 
Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, February 8 at the Miller Invitational.
