BALTIMORE, MD – McDaniel closed the game with a 12-7 run to grab a 66-61 win over host Johns Hopkins Wednesday night in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays fall to 16-6 overall and 7-3 in the conference, while the Green Terror improve to 14-8 and 4-6.
Trailing 54-48, Hopkins pulled even with back-to-back three-pointers from
Wyatt Eglinton Manner and
Logan Feller with 6:05 to play. David Kearney answered with a pair of free throws, followed by jumpers from Matt Kearney and Bruce Black to stake the Green Terror to a 60-54 lead at the 2:13-mark. The Blue Jays pulled back within two with jumpers from
Jeb Williams and Eglinton Manner. But McDaniel would go 6-of-6 from the line in the final 32 seconds, sandwiched around a
Nick Klaiber triple, to take the win.
The opening seven minutes were a back-and-forth affair as McDaniel held a slim 14-13 lead. Ashenafi Stuart sparked a 13-5 run that saw the Green Terror go up 27-18 with 7:21 to play in the half. The Blue Jays answered with a 9-2 run to close the half and cut the Terror's lead to two at the break.
Stuart and David Kearney sandwiched jumpers around an Eglinton Manner bucket to open the second and the lead was four. Klaiber then hit a pair of free throws to ignite a 16-9 spurt, capped by a
Charlie Jackson three-point play to grab a 45-42 lead with 13:05 to go. Hopkins' lead was short-lived as McDaniel put together a 10-2 run to go up 52-47 just three-and-a-half minutes later. JHU answered with a 7-2 run of its own, knotting the score at 54 on Feller's three-pointer at the 6:05-mark.
Eglinton Manner led the Blue Jays with a double-double, scoring 23 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Jackson added 16 points and seven boards. Stuart led all scorers with 27 points, going 11-of-15 from the field. David Kearney finished with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Bruce Black grabbed a team-high nine boards.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, February 14 against Franklin & Marshall. Tip-off at Goldfarb Gym is slated for 6:00 pm.
