Grossman Smisek Earns 300th Win; Blue Jays Go Unbeaten at MACFA C

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Spencer Grossman Smisek earned his 300th career win and Johns Hopkins won all five matches on Saturday at the MACFA C Round Robin. JHU earned wins over Haverford (16-11), William & Mary (23-4), Stevens (19-8), Navy (22-5) and Maryland (26-1) to improve to 23-9 on the season.
 
Against eighth-ranked Haverford, Hopkins grabbed wins in the Sabre (9-0) and Foil (5-4) to top the Fords. Noah Zeng won each of his three bouts to lead the Sabre squad, while Josh Sima won twice, including the clinching win in the Foil. The Blue Jays then cruised to the win over the Tribe, including a 9-0 win by the Foil squad. Grossman Smisek and Omar Reyes combined for six wins to lead the Foil squad. Alex Jeffords and Neil Pandey did the same to lead the Sabre squad to an 8-1 win. And in the Epee (6-3), Matthew Dao won each of his three bouts to pace the Blue Jays.
 
Hopkins then picked up 7-2 wins in the Sabre and Epee and a close 5-4 win in the Foil to beat Stevens. Zeng and Jeffords won two bouts each to lead in the Sabre. Ayan Bhatnagar went 3-0 to lead the Epee squad. In the Foil, Sima won two bouts and Reyes clinched the 5-4 win for the Jays. In the win over the Midshipmen, the Blue Jays grabbed a 9-0 win in the Foil and an 8-1 win in the Epee, while Sabre squad pulled out a 5-4 win. Reyes and Yi Peng Sha combined for six wins in the Foil, while Bhatnagar and Dao did the same in the Epee. Pandey won two of his three bouts, including the clinching win in the Sabre.
 
Hopkins ended the day with the win over Maryland, dropping just one bout in the Epee. Alex Pan won three bouts to lead the Sabre squad while Sima and Sha did the same for the Foil squad. Dao and Bhatnagar combined for six wins for the Epee squad.
 
Grossman Smisek becomes just the fifth Foilest in program history to reach the 300-win mark and is the second Blue Jay this year to do so, joining Epeeist Jorge Gana. In addition, Reyes earned his 100th career win in the Foil. Hopkins' 23 wins this season are tied for the 10th most in program history and are five shy of the program record. It is the fourth straight 20-win season and 11th under head coach Austin Young.
