Johns Hopkins Bests Swarthmore, 73-62

SWARTHMORE, PA – Charlie Jackson scored a game-high 26 points to lead Johns Hopkins to a 73-62 win over host Swarthmore Wednesday night in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays improve to 18-6 overall and 9-3 in the conference, while the Garnet fall to 13-11 and 7-5.

Swarthmore led 11-5 midway through the first but five unanswered points from Tanti Felli sparked a 28-6 Hopkins run. Six Blue Jays scored during the run that ate up just over eight minutes as they held the home team to just 3-of-12 shooting and forced five turnovers. Logan Feller scored seven straight points to cap the run and put Hopkins up 33-17 with 3:04 to play in the half.

The Garnet closed the half with a 7-0 spurt to make it a 33-24 game at the break. The Blue Jays opened the second with a 9-5 spurt of their own, pushing the lead to 13 less than three minutes in. Matthew Maloney and Brady Kageyama then hit back-to-back triples and just like that the lead was six with 14:58 to play.

Hopkins pushed the lead back to double digits with five straight points from Jeb Williams and Nick Klaiber. Swarthmore came right back with nine unanswered, capped by an Andrew Park layup and the lead was just three midway through the half. Wyatt Eglinton Manner responded with a layup, followed by a Felli free throw to spark a methodical 26-15 run. It spanned nearly nine minutes, fueled by 11 points from Jackson and six from Eglinton Manner, and pushed the Blue Jays' lead to 14 with just 12 ticks on the clock. Hopkins did a lot of damage from the line during the run, going 14-of-15 from the charity stripe.

Jackson led all scorers with 26 points to push his career total to 992. He also grabbed seven rebounds and blocked two shots. Eglington Manner just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds, to go along with five assists. Felli added 12 points while Feller chipped in nine. Eddie Paquette scored 21 points as the only Garnet in double figures. Zander Jimenez added nine points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Hopkins closes out the regular season on Saturday, February 21 at Dickinson. Tip-off at the Kline Center is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
