EWING, NJ - The Johns Hopkins wrestling season came to an end on Saturday at the NCAA Regional Championships as junior
Freddy Pimental (149) and sophomore
Duncan Stadler (133) both finished eighth in their respective weight classes. In the team standings, the Blue Jays amassed 18.5 points to place 17th overall.
Already assured of a top-eight finish going into Saturday's second day of competition, both dropped a pair of matches to finish eighth.
Pimental dropped a 9-5 decision to Jason Giordano of TCNJ in his first match on Saturday, then fell to third-seeded Levi Snyder of Messiah, 5-3, in the seventh-place match. Pimental grabbed an early 3-0 lead on a first-period takedown, but Snyder scored a pair of escapes and added a takedown of his own to grab the victory. Pimental's two losses at the tournament came to top-seeded and eventual champion Thomas Monn and the third-seeded Snyder.
Stadler was even with Eastern's Jackson Orrell as the third-period clock dripped under a minute remaining in the third period, but Orrell worked an escape and takedown and then secured a pin at the 6:44 mark. In the seventh-place match, Gettysburg's Torey Falkinburg used a pair of third-period takedowns and a four-point nearfall to secure and 11-3 major decision.
