Gettysburg Tops Johns Hopkins On Last-Second Three-Pointer

GETTYSBURG, PA – Gettysburg's Josh Herr made a three-pointer with 1.8 seconds on the clock to win to lift the host Bullets over Johns Hopkins, 61-59, Wednesday night in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays slip to 15-5 overall and 6-2 in the conference, while the Bullets improve to 12-8 and 7-1.

Trailing 47-39 with 7:45 to play, the Blue Jays put together an 11-2 run, capped by a Charlie Jackson layup to go up 50-49 a little over three minutes later. Ray Zamloot answered with a three-pointer to grab the lead back for Gettysburg at the 4:21-mark. Jackson and Wyatt Eglinton Manner then sandwiched a pair of buckets around a Caleb Gillus layup and the teams were tied at 54 with 1:57 on the clock.

Gillus put the Bullets up two with a pair of free throws at 1:27 but Tanti Felli answered on the other with an old-fashioned three-point play. Zamloot and Felli traded buckets in a 13-second span and Hopkins led 59-58 with 29 ticks on the clock. Gettysburg had the final say with Herr's corner three to put the home team up two with as the clock ticked under two seconds.

Gettysburg grabbed a 19-9 lead at the 7:52-mark in the first half, fueled by a combined 14 points from Gillus and Herr. An Eglinton Manner layup to spark a 10-4 JHU run, including a pair of Felli dunks, to pull Hopkins within four with 3:02 to go in the half. Malachi Briscoe hit one of two free throws, followed by a Carson Kasmer pull-up jumper and Gettysburg led 26-19 late in the half.

Felli hit a layup to end the half and ignite a 13-4 run that spanned five-and-a-half minutes. Eglinton Manner capped the run with a driving layup to put the Blue Jays on top 32-30. The lead was short-lived as a Reece Craft layup kick-started a 17-7 run, that chewed up more than six minutes, and saw the Bullets grab a 47-39 lead to set the stage for the thrilling finish.

Felli led the Blue Jays with a game and career-high 20 points, while also grabbing five rebounds. Eglinton Manner finished with 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals while Jackson chipped in 11 points. Herr and Zamloot led the Bullets with 14 points apiece and Gillus added 13. Aidan Mess grabbed a game-high six rebounds for Gettysburg.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, February 7 as the Blue Jays visit the Ursinus Bears. Tip-off at Helfferich Hall is slated for 1:00 pm.
