BALTIMORE, MD – The No. 5/5 Johns Hopkins women's basketball team turned relentless defensive pressure into offense Saturday night, forcing 30 turnovers to power past Baldwin Wallace, 59-46, in the second round of the 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship inside Goldfarb Gymnasium.
The victory pushed the Blue Jays to 27 wins, setting a new program record for most wins in a season, and sends Johns Hopkins to the NCAA Round of 16 for the third consecutive year.
In a physical, high-intensity matchup, Hopkins (27-1) established its defensive presence early.
Faith Williamson knocked down a corner three to give the Blue Jays a 6-4 lead with 6:04 remaining in the first quarter as Hopkins forced four early turnovers. Baldwin Wallace countered with a strong presence in the paint, converting second-chance opportunities to take a 15-10 lead at the end of the opening period.
The Yellow Jackets maintained a five-point advantage through the early stages of the second quarter before Hopkins began to tighten the screws defensively. Ball pressure from
Kendall Dunham and
Layla Henderson forced Baldwin Wallace's seventh turnover of the half, and
Emily Collins capitalized with baskets on back-to-back possessions to trim the deficit to 19-16. Despite the Blue Jays forcing 13 first-half turnovers, Baldwin Wallace matched Hopkins' intensity and carried a 27-22 lead into halftime.
After a slow start to the third quarter offensively for both teams, Baldwin Wallace extended its lead to 29-22 following an offensive rebound just under three minutes in. That's when Hopkins' pressure completely shifted the momentum.
The Blue Jays forced six consecutive turnovers during a stretch that fueled a 13-0 run, giving Hopkins its first lead since early in the first quarter at 33-29. With the momentum firmly on their side, Dunham buried a three-pointer as the shot clock expired to extend the lead to 40-34 with 3:05 remaining in the period. Williamson added two free throws in the closing seconds to send Hopkins into the fourth quarter ahead, 42-34.
Hopkins continued to generate turnovers to start the final frame, though Baldwin Wallace briefly trimmed the margin to four, 43-39, with 7:04 remaining. The Blue Jays responded with back-to-back baskets from Williamson and a three-pointer by
Lauren Knudson to stretch the lead back to nine.
Jocelyn Goldstein battled through contact on the glass for a putback layup that pushed the advantage to double digits, 52-42, with 4:47 to play. With under two minutes remaining, Hopkins maintained an 11-point cushion before
Macie Feldman delivered the dagger with a pull-up jumper with 1:11 left, sealing the 59-46 victory and sending the Blue Jays to the Sweet 16.
Williamson led Hopkins with 18 points, going 7-of-8 from the free-throw line, while Henderson added 11 points. Six different Blue Jays recorded at least two steals, with Knudson leading the team with three as Hopkins' pressure controlled the game.
Johns Hopkins will return to action next week in the third round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship, facing the winner of Concordia-M'head and Ripon. Game time and location will be announced on HopkinsSports.com when available.
