Wodicka Announces Coaching Staff Updates

Crevani Adds Recruiting Coordinator Role, Schuermann Joins Staff

BALTIMORE, MD – Dan Wodicka, the James F. Margraff Head Coach of Football at Johns Hopkins, announced two updates to the Blue Jay coaching staff today.  Stephen Crevani, who is entering his third season as a member of Wodicka's staff in 2026, has added the role of recruiting coordinator, while Luke Schuermann has joined the staff as the defensive line coach.

Both moves were triggered by the recent departure of assistant coach Mario "Rio" Byrd, who served as the program's defensive line coach from 2023-25 and held the recruiting coordinator position in 2024 and 2025.  Byrd was recently named the defensive coordinator at his alma mater, Christopher Newport.

Crevani joined Wodicka's staff on March 4, 2024 as the offensive line coach and has helped the Blue Jays to a 24-4 record, two trips to the NCAA Semifinals and one Centennial Conference title during his two seasons at Homewood.  His unit paved the way for an offense that averaged 41.4 points and 459.1 yards per game last season.  The Blue Jays scored at least 27 points in all 14 games during the 2025 season and at least 40 in each of their last three games in the NCAA Playoffs.

During his two seasons at Homewood, Crevani has coached five Blue Jay offensive linemen to seven combined selections to the All-Centennial Conference Team, while Michael Nwosu wrapped up his career in 2025 as the most decorated offensive lineman in school history with selections to three different All-America teams after playing his final two seasons under Crevani.

Schuermann will begin his college coaching career with his appointment to Wodicka's staff.  Schuermann was a standout defensive lineman at Johns Hopkins from 2021-23 before playing his final season at UCLA.

During his three years at Johns Hopkins, Schuermann was a finalist for the prestigious William V. Campbell Trophy, earned a total of seven All-America selections from three different organizations (D3football.com, Associated Press, AFCA), was a three-time First Team All-Centennial Conference selection and was twice named the Centennial's Defensive Player of the Year.   He graduated as JHU's career leader in sacks (34.5) and tackles for loss (62.5) and was a three-time CSC Academic All-America selection as well.

Johns Hopkins will open the 2026 season at home on Saturday, September 5 when the Blue Jays welcome Ithaca to Homewood Field.
