PROVIDENCE, RI – Harvard closed the game on a 5-2 run to grab a 17-13 win over Johns Hopkins Saturday afternoon in the Blue Jays' second game at the Bruno Invite. The Blue Jays slip to 8-4 on the season while the Crimson, who are receiving votes in this week's CWPA poll, improve to 3-9.
 
Trailing 3-2 early after a Dean Strausser goal, Hopkins got goals from Luke Mendelsohn, Alec Baker and Mason Hofmann in the final 99 seconds of the first to grab a 5-3 lead. Harvard erupted with a 9-1 second quarter to take a 12-6 lead into the half.
 
The Blue Jays came out firing in the third quarter, getting three quick goals from Phillip Long, Hofmann and Mendelsohn and the deficit was three with 5:27 to go. After the Crimson called timeout to try and stem the tide, the Blue Jays got right back to it. Hofmann and Mendelsohn scored twice in a 97-second span and just like that, it was a one-goal game with 1:35 on the clock. Harvard had the final say of the quarter however, as Jack Burghardt scored to push the Crimson's lead to 13-11 after three.
 
Burghadt picked up where he left off at the quarter break, scoring twice in the opening two minutes to put Harvard up 15-11. Dean Strausser then scored at the 4:46-mark and the lead was five. Long and Hofmann answered with back-to-back scores to pull the Blue Jays within three with 2:19 to play. But that's as close as they could get and Lukas Peabody tacked on a 17^th goal with 1:07 to play.
 
Hofmann led the Blue Jays with three goals and four assists to go with three steals. Alec Baker notched five points (2g, 3a) and blocked three shots. Mendelsohn added four points (3g,    1a) and Long added three (2g, 1a). Sebastian Isaacs finished with eight saves and a steal in the cage.
 
Hopkins wraps up a three-game day against Conn College at 5:45 pm on Saturday.
