Box Score ANNAPOLIS, MD – Host and 20
th-ranked Navy outscored Johns Hopkins 8-4 over the second and third quarters en route to a 13-9 win in the Blue Jays' season opener Saturday morning at the Navy Open.
The opening 10 and a half minutes were a back-and-forth affair as the teams were tied at four. Jack Pointer scored with 3:23 to play in the second quarter to spark a four-goal run that spanned four minutes. Quinn Bartlett capped the run 32 seconds into the third to put Navy up 8-4.
Luke Mendelsohn and
Max Blecher scored back-to-back goals just 47 seconds apart to cut the deficit to two with 6:09 to go. Declan Murphy answered for the Mids, sparking a 4-1 run that saw the lead grow to five at the end of three.
David Edelman scored to open the fourth to pull the Blue Jays within one, but Navy answered just 24 seconds later to make it 13-8. The score remained that way until an
Ethan Babel score at 1:50 to make it 13-9 and that's how it ended.
Alec Baker led the Blue Jays with two goals while Edelman and
Jasper Hirt notched their first career goals. Declan Bartlett and Quinn Bartlett led the Mids with three goals each.
Hopkins is back in the pool on Saturday to take on Air Force in the Navy Open. The game is scheduled for a 2:00 pm start.
