BALTIMORE, MD – The 15^th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's soccer team moved to 2-0 on the young season as the Blue Jays topped Shenandoah, 2-1, at Homewood Field Saturday afternoon.  All three goals in the game came in the opening 34 minutes, although both teams had golden chances for more.
 
For the second straight game, the Blue Jays got a game-opening goal from senior Caroline Marcus, who pressured the Hornets in the area and came up with a loose ball to the right of the goal. Shenandoah goalie Molly Donaldson had come off her line, but failed to gain control and Marcus fired her second of the season into an open net in the eighth minute.

The Blue Jays nearly made it 2-0 in the 17^th minute when freshmen Terren Davis was sprung behind the defense by classmate Inara Inesi, but her nine-yard offering drifted just outside the post to keep things scoreless.
 
The Hornets would draw even in the 31^st minute when Lauren Duffy sent Kaitlyn Wahl into the area to the right of Blue Jay goalie Elle Kruntchev and Wahl rang one off the far post and in for the equalizer.
 
The tie didn't last long – just 105 seconds to be exact – as Johns Hopkins again made the Hornets pay for a mistake in their end of the field.  Off a throw-in deep in the Shenandoah end, the Blue Jays couldn't control a loose ball in the box, but a Hornet defender shanked her clearing attempt and it landed right at the foot of Johns Hopkins freshman Addi Dauler, who had checked into the game less than 45 seconds earlier.  Dauler settled and fired a left-footer into the far corner for her first career goal to five the Jays a one-goal lead.

The 2-1 lead would hold over the final 56+ minutes, but Shenandoah would have two great chances at the equalizer ring off the post in the second half, including one with 90 seconds remaining off a free kick from Emily Soos that floated through the box to the far side, but drew iron instead of twine.
 
The Jays outshot the Hornets 13-10 with Shenandoah collecting five of the nine corner kicks in the game.  Kruntchev posted three saves to pick up the win in goal for the Blue Jays.  Donaldson made one save in the opening 45 minutes and Morgan Musselman added two stops in the second half for the Hornets.
 
Johns Hopkins will return to action on Wednesday, September 9 when the Blue Jays travel to Messiah to take on the fifth-ranked Falcons (7 pm).
