Did You Know: Corey Harned is the younger brother of Chris Harned, who was an attackman for the Blue Jays from 1997-2000.
This Season: Enters third season as Hopkins[apos] top long-stick defensive midfielder Excellent one-on-one defender who excels at jump-starting the transition game Also excels on the wing on faceoffs and is one of the top ground ball players in the nation.
2003: Surprisingly overlooked in the selection process for All-America Anchored JHU[apos]s defense from his long-stick defensive midfield position Earned a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament Team after using the Final Four to make his case as the top player in the nation at his position Entered the Final Four with career totals of one goal and three assists for four points Scored two goals and added one assist in the 19-8 win over Syracuse in the NCAA Semifinals and scored a goal against Virginia in the NCAA Championship Game Finished second on the team with 67 ground balls Fueled a Johns Hopkins defense that held 14 of 16 opponents to less than 10 goals and allowed just 25 goals in four NCAA Tournament games.
2002: Played in all 14 games Made another position change, this time to long-stick defensive middie (played attack in high school and short-stick defensive middie as a freshman) Key member of a Johns Hopkins defense that allowed less than 8.5 goals per game Shared the rope position with Tom Garvey and also excelled as a wing on faceoffs Excelled in loose ball situations as he grabbed 60 ground balls on the year, the second-highest total on the teamScooped up a career-high nine ground balls in the NCAA Semifinals against Princeton and added seven against Ohio State Posted a team-high six ground balls and came up with an errant Maryland pass in overtime that eventually led to Hopkins[apos] game-winning goal.
2001: Played in all 12 games as a short-stick defensive middie Registered one goal, one assist and 21 ground balls on the year Tallied both of his points on the year in the 10-9 loss at Maryland Tied the game at 5-5 with the first goal of his career with 8:25 remaining in the third quarter and assisted on a Bobby Benson goal five minutes later that gave JHU an 8-6 lead.
