Biography

Matt Righter begins his first season as an assistant under his collegiate head coach Bill Nelson. He played four seasons under Nelson, served as a team captain as a senior and helped the Blue Jays to a 66-35 (.653) record during his career. Righter earned Honorable Mention All-Centennial Conference accolades as a senior, when he led the team in three-point field goals (57) and three-point field goal percentage (.452). He finished his career ranked 10th in school history in career three-point field goal attempts (256), tied for ninth in three-point field goals made (102), seventh in three-point field goal percentage (.398) and tied for ninth in free throw percentage (.800). Righter also played baseball at Johns Hopkins under head coach Bob Babb and is entering his fourth season as an assistant coach with the Blue Jays. He earned All-Centennial Conference honors and lead the Blue Jays to four Centennial Conference championships in his career. JHU finished with a 40-4 record in his senior season, posting the best win-percentage in school history (.909). Righter was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 21st round of the 2004 Major League Baseball draft, the then-highest pick in JHU history. He spent five seasons in the minor leagues for the Tigers, finishing with an 11-9 record and 4.10 ERA and advancing as high Triple-A. Righter graduated from Johns Hopkins with a degree in international relations in 2004 and received his MBA from the University of Phoenix in 2009. He is the CEO of eFieldHouse, an organization designed to help former professional baseball players. Righter is married to the former Allison Cappelaere, a four-year letterwinner on the Blue Jay volleyball team and a 2010 graduate of Johns Hopkins. She was a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and ranks in the top 15 in school history in kills (8th • 922), aces (12th •119) and digs (8th • 1,057).
