Cory Pietrzyk, a 2017 graduate of nearby Stevenson University, is in his fifth year as a member of the Blue Jay coaching staff.  After coaching the Blue Jay defensive line in 2018, Pietrzyk coached the Johns Hopkins linebackers in 2019 and maintains that role on Greg Chimera’s staff.

Pietrzyk’s unit helped fuel Hopkins’ 10-2 record, share of the Centennial title and trip to the second of the NCAA Playoffs in 2021.  His two starters in the middle of the Blue Jay defense - Matt Dubois and Duncan Van Kouteren - combined for 100 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and five sacks.  The Blue Jay defense allowed just 15.2 points per game and produced more than 30 sacks (39) and 30 turnovers (32).

In his first season at Homewood, Pietrzyk coached a pair of All-Centennial defensive linemen (Anthony Davidson-1st Team, Mike Kalanik-2nd Team) and developed a unit with just one returning starter into a disruptive group that fueled much of the team’s defensive success.  The Blue Jays’ four starting defensive linemen combined for more than 200 tackles, including 47 for losses and 24.5 sacks.

Pietrzyk made a seamless shift to coaching the Blue Jay linebackers in 2019 and coached junior Ryan Weed to Second Team All-Centennial Conference honors.  Weed (71 tackles) and then-senior Nick Hartman (65) were both in their first season as starters in the middle of the Blue Jay defense and anchored a unit that allowed just 17.8 points and 336.4 yards per game.

Since Pietrzyk arrived at Johns Hopkins, the Blue Jays have posted a 30-7 record, with the program’s first trip to the NCAA Semifinals (2018), two Centennial Conference titles (2018, 2021, two trips to the NCAAs (2018, 2021) and a decisive 51-28 win over Stevenson in the 2019 Centennial-MAC Bowl Series to their credit.

Pietrzyk was a three-year starter and four-year regular for the Mustangs.  He earned First Team All-MAC and was an All-ECAC selection as a senior, when he totaled 92 tackles, including 15.5 for losses and four sacks.  He led the team in tackles as a sophomore and senior and totaled 80 or more tackles in each of his last three full seasons  (2016 season limited to three games due to season-ending injury).

Pietrzyk finished his career with 329 tackles and earned a degree in business administration.
