Jay Anderson was appointed the Blue Jay defensive coordinator on February 24, 2021. He brings previous head coaching experience along with a background at the NCAA Division I, II and III levels to Homewood,
Anderson, was most recently the Associate Head Coach and defensive coordinator at Notre Dame College of Ohio since January 2020. The Division II Falcons had their 2020 season postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Anderson had implemented a full defensive scheme and assisted in the recruiting efforts of two full classes.
Prior to his time at Notre Dame College, Anderson spent six seasons as the head coach at Oberlin College. While there, he oversaw the Yeomen defense and worked closely with the defensive backs. He oversaw the program’s national recruiting efforts, spearheaded fundraising initiatives and developed close working relationships with members of the college’s administration and faculty to advance the athletics program both on campus and in the community.
Anderson coached 27 All-North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) selections and one NCAC Special Teams Player of the Year and the Yeoman set a number of school records during his tenure, including single-season marks for total offense by an individual and team; he also coached the first 1,000-yard receiver in school history.
Anderson got his start in coaching at Oberlin as the defensive backs coach from 2009-11 before making his first stop at Notre Dame College for one season as the linebackers coach in 2012. He then returned to Oberlin for one season (2013) as the defensive coordinator before being promoted to head coach in December 2013.
Anderson was a four-year letter winner at Toledo, where he started 48 games in the secondary and graduated with a degree in English in 2003. He helped the Rockets to the 2001 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championship, MAC Western Division titles in 2000 and 2002 and back-to-back appearances in the Motor City Bowl in 2001 and 2002.
