Biography

Did You Know: Benson Erwin completed a Fellowship in the office of Baltimore City Mayor Martin O[apos]Malley last summer.

This Season: Returns for his fourth season as Hopkins[apos] top short-stick defensive middie • One of the top players in the country at this position.

2004: Played in all 15 games as JHU[apos]s top short-stick defensive middie • Tallied one goal and four assists for five points • Finished seventh on the team with 25 ground balls on the year and was tied for 10th on the team in scoring with his five points • Enjoyed a short-stick defensive midfielder[apos]s dream in the NCAA Tournament win over North Carolina as he tallied one goal and had two assists for a career-high three points • Added four ground balls in the 15-9 win over UNC in the NCAA Quarterfinals • Helped the JHU defense hold 13 of 15 opponents to less than 10 goals • JHU finished ninth in the nation in scoring defense (7.67 goals/game).

2003: Played in all 16 games as JHU[apos]s primary short-stick defensive midfielder • Had one goal, four assists and 29 ground balls • Finished seventh on the team with the 29 ground balls • Scored only goal of the season in the 17-6 win over Loyola in the regular season finale • Added assists in regular season wins over Penn and Navy and NCAA Tournament victories over Army and Syracuse • Key member of a Johns Hopkins defensive unit that held 14 of 16 opponents to less than 10 goals and allowed a total of just 25 goals in four NCAA Tournament games • JHU finished third in the nation in scoring defense (6.94).

2002: Played in all 14 games as one of Hopkins[apos] top two short-stick defensive middies • Also saw time playing on the wing on faceoffs • Scored two goals and added one assist on the year • Tallied first career goal in a 9-8 overtime win over Maryland • Added a goal in win over Villanova and an assist in a win over Loyola.

At Friends: Three-sport standout (soccer, basketball, lacrosse) • Helped lead lacrosse team to MIAA title as a sophomore and soccer team to MIAA title as a junior • Earned All-MIAA honors in soccer and lacrosse and was a Second Team All-Metro pick in lacrosse.
