Biography
Did You Know: Joe McDermott has done an extensive amount of volunteer work He has coached basketball with the Special Olympics, is involved with Athletes Helping Athletes and has worked with various senior citizen groups.
This Season: One of the leaders of a deep and talented group of midfielders Will battle for a spot on the first midfield but could also anchor a second unit that will be among the nation[apos]s best.
2003: Enjoyed the most productive season of his career as he finished eighth on the team in scoring with a career-high 12 goals and nine assists for a personal-best 21 points Ended the season with a 10-game point-scoring streak and was one of JHU[apos]s most effective offensive players down the stretch Tallied the game-winning goal in a 6-5 overtime victory at Maryland and tallied what proved to be the game-winning goal in an 8-7 win over then top-ranked Virginia during regular season Scored Hopkins[apos] first goal of the game in both the NCAA Semifinals against Syracuse and the NCAA Championship game against Virginia Scored a career-high three goals in a 14-2 win over Army in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and finished with seven goals and one assist in four NCAA Tournament games.
2002: Played in 13 games as a member of Hopkins[apos] second midfield Scored five goals and added four assists for nine points Scored one goal and added an assist in a 9-8 win over Hofstra Against Syracuse, assisted on Kevin Boland[apos]s second goal of the game with 2:31 remaining - the goal drew Hopkins to within 8-7 in a game the Blue Jays eventually won, 9-8 Tallied a goal against Maryland that stopped a 4-0 Terp run.
2001: Played in 11 games with six starts Became the first freshman attackman at JHU to start the first game of the season since 1996 Scored seven goals and added 10 assists for 17 points to finish third on the team in assists and sixth in points Opened career with a one-goal, one assist effort against Princeton and came back with a three-assist effort in the 7-6 win over Hofstra First multi-goal game of career came with a two-goal effort in a 12-4 win at North Carolina Running on a midfield unit almost exclusively against Loyola, scored two goals and added an assist during a 3-0 run that turned an 8-8 tie into an 11-8 advantage midway through the fourth quarter Registered at least one point in 10 of the 11 games he played.
