Biography

At Hopkins: Will again start on the JHU defense this season • often shuts down one of the opponent[apos]s top attackers • one of the most reliable players on the team • has a solid understanding of the defensive system • makes great decisions and few mistakes • can transition the ball upfield.

2003: Started all 16 games on the Blue Jay defense • had five ground balls and a caused turnover on April 7 against No. 9 Penn State • recorded five ground balls and a draw control in the season finale against George Mason on May 3 • collected four ground balls and caused two turnovers in the 15-6 win over Davidson on March 21 and in the 11-4 win at Villanova on April 16 • had three ground balls and a caused turnover against Ohio University, Vanderbilt and Maryland • named to American Lacrosse Conference Academic Honor Roll.

2002: Named team[apos]s Defensive Player of the Year • started all 18 games in the Blue Jay backfield • tied for the team lead in minutes played • third on the team with 26 caused turnovers and fifth with 48 ground balls • finished ninth in the conference with 2.67 ground balls per game • picked up four ground balls and caused a career-high four turnovers in the 11-10 win over Ohio State on April 6 • recorded four ground balls, two caused turnovers and three draw controls on May 4 vs. Cornell • caused three turnovers against American and Richmond.

2001: Saw action in all but one game and made two starts • scored five goals and recorded 17 ground balls • goals came against William & Mary, Davidson, Hofstra, Villanova and George Mason.

Personal: Kate M. Gilland •born March 22, 1982 •daughter of Howard and Joan Gilland •named all-county, all-conference and All-South Jersey in lacrosse • was all-league, all-state and All-American honoree in field hockey and lacrosse •played on 1998 state championship team as well as 1999 and 2000 sectional championship lacrosse squads •led field hockey team to state championship •was team captain of the field hockey and lacrosse teams •also was a member of the swimming team at Shawnee • made Dean[apos]s List in the spring of 2002 •psychology major with a minor in business.
