Richard Möller joined the Johns Hopkins staff beginning in the 2015 season, following two Division III head coaching stops and a standout playing career at nearby Towson University.Â
Born and raised in Germany, Möller played for 1.F.C. Kaiserslautern, where he helped lead the team to a national title.
Möller then came to America for college, where he was a three-time captain in his four years at Towson, and became the first Tiger to garner NSCAA Division I All-America honors and America East Player of the Year, doing so in his senior season. That season he set a Towson record with 21 goals, the second-best mark in the nation.
Prior to graduating with a 4.0 GPA in Modern Languages, Möller was the first and only NSCAA Scholar Athlete All-American and was the first Towson player to be back-to-back America East Scholar Athlete of the Year.
After his career at Towson, Möller was the number one overall pick by Maryland Mania (A-League)/D.C. United (Major League Soccer). He was the number two overall pick by the Baltimore Blast in 2000.
From 2006-14 Möller was the head coach at Vassar College and St. Mary's College of Maryland. At Vassar he helped lead the squad to its best conference record in program history and it was the first time any team school hosted a conference tournament game. His Vassar squad fell in the conference final to top-ranked William Smith, but received regional and national rankings that season.
Additionally, Möller has spent time working with the German U16 and U17 girl’s national teams.
