Andrew Padilla arrived at Johns Hopkins as the Coordinator of Experiential Education in July 2010 and held that position for five years until being promoted to Assistant Director of Recreation for Experiential Education in July 2015.
In his current role, Padilla designs Johns Hopkins' extensive outdoor trips program, provides instructor training, leads expeditions and oversees special events and workshops. In all, he facilitates approximately 120 unique trips each year.
Padilla is also the director of Johns Hopkins' Outdoor Pre-Orientation program, which welcomes more than 100 first-year students and 40 student instructors annually for an outdoor experience away from Baltimore that includes camping, hiking, whitewater rafting and other outdoor activities. The immersive experience is designed to introduce first-year students to Experiential Education while creating a bonding experience with fellow Johns Hopkins students.
Prior to his time at Johns Hopkins, Padilla spent one year as an intern in the Department of Recreation a Colorado School of Mines. There, he coordinated approximately 60 outdoor trips and workshops, managed a student staff of 20 and supervised the school's indoor and outdoor climbing facilities.
Padilla graduated from Gettysburg College with degrees in anthropology and globalization studies in 2008 and went on to earn a master's in recreation, sports and tourism in 2016 from the University of Illinois.
