Johns Hopkins University Director of Athletics and Recreation Jennifer S. Baker announced the promotion of Daniel Kifle to Associate Athletic Director/Director of Recreation Services today. Kifle who arrived at Johns Hopkins in 2020, previously held the title of Assistant Director of Facilities and Aquatics for the Ralph S. O'Connor Center for Recreation and Well-Being.
 
In his new role, Kifle will be responsible for the overall management, administration and marketing of campus-wide recreation services, facilities and programs. He will also be charged with directing the strategic planning process for Recreation Services. Kifle will serve as a member of the Department of Athletics and Recreation's administrative leadership team.
 
As the Assistant Director of Facilities and Aquatics, Kifle managed the daily facility and aquatics operations of the 80,000 square foot O'Connor Center. This included scheduling, organizing and planning all activities held in the Recreation Center, including special events for the Department of Athletics and Recreation. Kifle assisted in the oversight of the O'Connor Center expansion project and successfully launched the reopening of the facility in October 2021.
 
Kifle came to Johns Hopkins after spending four years as the Assistant Director for Aquatics at North Carolina State University. He oversaw the University's 18-lane Olympic-sized pool, eight-lane competition pool and diving well, a 4,000 square foot grass field and a four-acre field complex. He scheduled, coordinated and planned all aquatic practices and events for various pool user groups as well as assisted in the preparation, organization and execution of various departmental special events.
 
Prior to his tenure at NC State, Kifle spent two years as the Coordinator of Aquatic Programs and Services at Nova Southeastern University. He also spent 18 months as a Graduate Assistant for Aquatics and Instructional Programs at Virginia Tech.
 
Kifle graduated from Georgia State with a bachelor's degree in African-American Studies in 2012. He then earned his master's degree in Education, Instruction and Curriculum from Virginia Tech in 2013.
