First Day at Johns Hopkins: August 15, 2022

Maggie Heverly joined the staff at Johns Hopkins on August 15, 2022 and now serves as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Facilities and Events.

A 2022 graduate of Florida State University, Heverly was promoted to her current role in October of 2024.  In her current position, she oversees the daily operation of eight Johns Hopkins athletics and recreation facilities, ensuring proper setup, maintenance and safety standards are in place.  Heverly supervises a team of seven full-time employees and more than 50 part-time/student employees and serves as the main point of contact with a number of campus partners.  She has assisted in the hosting of numerous NCAA and Centennial Conference Tournaments and served as the official Tournament Director when Johns Hopkins hosted the first and second round of the 2026 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Tournament.

Heverly initially came to Johns Hopkins as a facility and aquatics coordinator and was charged with managing the day-to-day operations of the Ralph S. O'Connor Center for Recreation and Well-Being and the Newton White Athletic Center Natatorium.  She was tasked with recruiting, training and supervising a staff of nearly 75 students, including lifeguards, welcome-desk attendants and equipment room attendants.  In addition, Heverly was directly involved wih the development, review and implementation of facility policies and procedures, including emergency action plans (EAPs) and standard operating procedures.

After just under one year, Heverly was promoted to the Assistant Director, Facilities and Aquatics in July of 2023 and assumed a supervisory role of five full-time employees and a student staff of more than 100.  During this time, she led event operations for all home men's and women's swimming meets and all home water polo games and coordinated the execution and event planning for all special events held in the O'Connor Center.

Heverly got her start in athletics as a student at Florida State, where she spent one year as the student director of aquatic personnel and later as the student director of human resources.  She holds numerous certifications, including as a lifeguard instructor, a water safety instructor and as a certified pool operator and is a member of the Collegiate Event and Facility Management Association (CEFMA) and Women Leaders in Sports.
