First Day at Johns Hopkins:  March 10, 2025

In his first season as an assistant coach at Johns Hopkins is Matt Eastman, who arrives at Homewood after spending two seasons as a graduate assistant at Valparaiso.

At Valpo, Eastman helped the Beacons to a two-year record of 36-29, including a 19-17 mark in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC).  The Beacons advanced to the second round of the MVC Tournament in 2024 and participated in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship in 2023.

Eastman was involved in all facets of the program at Valpo with an emphasis on working with the liberos and defensive specialists.  He played an active role in practice and game-planning, oversaw the team's service game throughout the 2023 season and focused his scouting efforts on the opposition's distribution in 2024.

Prior to his time at Valpo, Eastman spent one year as a volunteer assistant women's coach at nearby UMBC, where he helped develop, design and implement practice drills, assisted with scouting and oversaw the team's use of analytics and statistics.  While at UMBC, he was also the head coach of the Retriever men's club team where he oversaw all aspects of the program.

Eastman has worked as a youth club coach since 2020 and his currently the head coach of the boys U14 team with the Epic Volleyball Club.  He played one year of club volleyball at UMBC, where he graduated in 2020 with a degree in information systems.  He is currently pursuing a master's degree from Valparaiso in sports administration.
