First Day at Johns Hopkins: October 1, 2026

Michael Hyde joined the Johns Hopkins staff as the Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Capital Projects and Facilities on October 1, 2026.

In his position as the Senior Associate, Hyde oversees all capital projects and improvements of Johns Hopkins’ athletic facilities, including scoping, planning and scheduling.  He directs a team that includes one associate director and one assistant director along with several additional full-time facility and event specialists and an established group of interns and student employees.

Hyde also has direct oversight off all facility budgets and assist in revenue generation opportunities through facility rentals, camps, clinics and other events hosted by the department across its numerous athletic facilities. In addition, he is the department’s main point of contact with a number of on-campus partners.

Hyde came to Johns Hopkins after spending two years at Georgia State University, where he served as the Associate Director of Recreation Facilities.  In that role, he oversaw the day-to-day operations of more than 200,000 square feet of indoor facilities and also managed outdoor space at the Panthersville Recreation Complex.  He supervised a full-time staff of 11 and managed all budget operations for department facilities and aquatic operations.

Prior to his time at Georgia State, Hyde spent nine years at Emory University, first as the Assistant Director of Athletic Facilities for three years and the final six years as the Associate Director of Athletic Facilities.

At Emory, he oversaw operations at each of Emory’s facilities, including scheduling, maintenance and project management.  He also served on the host operations team for a number of NCAA Championship events, including swimming, track and field, volleyball and basketball, at one of the premier Division III athletic programs in the nation.

Hyde graduated from VCU in 2002 with a degree in health, physical education and exercise science and added a master’s degree from VCU a year later in sport leadership with a concentration in sport management.  He would spend the first 12 years of his career at the University of South Carolina as a facility coordinator (2003-07), assistant director for facilities (2007-2014) and finally as associate director for facilities (2014-15) in the office of campus recreation before moving on to Emory in September 2015.
