Omari Thompson is in his first year as an assistant with the Johns Hopkins strength and conditioning team. Thompson is a 2019 graduate of Towson University, where he earned a degree in exercise science before going on to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) to earn a master's in sport leadership. In his role at VCU, Thompson developed and implemented a training program for the Rams' men's and women's track and field and men's golf programs. He worked closely with the sports medicine staff and also helped coordinate educational opportunities for his student-athletes in a number of areas, including nutrition-based programming designed to support their training. With Thompson's support, the VCU women's track team won the Atlantic 10 title in 2021.
Thompson got his start in the profession as an undergraduate at Towson as he worked as a volunteer with the Tiger strength and conditioning program and worked closely with the football, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's lacrosse, swimming and field hockey teams.
