Mountcastle started at Johns Hopkins in the fall of 1999 and was named the Head Athletic Trainer in the spring of 2004. His primary sport assignments include field hockey and men's lacrosse.

In August of 2014, Mountcastle was promoted to Director of Sports Performance and Wellness. In addition to overseeing the department of athletic training, he oversees all aspects of student-athlete performance, including strength and conditioning, nutrition and wellness.

Mountcastle received his bachelor's degree from McDaniel College in 1997 and earned his master's degree from Towson University in 2001.

In addition to his duties at Johns Hopkins, Mountcastle has also served as Head Athletic Trainer for the US Men's National Lacrosse team. He is a native Marylander and currently lives in Hampstead with his wife, Kelly, and daughters, Ashley and Rachel.
