Ernie Larossa came to Johns Hopkins in September 1997 and serves as the Associate Director of Athletics/Director of Athletic Communications. He is the main spokesperson for the Department of Athletics and works primarily with the football, women's soccer, wrestling and men's lacrosse teams; he is also a member of the Department of Athletics Administrative team.
During Larossa's tenure, the Athletic Communications office has grown from one full-time staffer and one intern to three full-time staffers and one intern. The group manages all media and public relations, produces all department publications, maintains the official web site of Hopkins Athletics and coordinates video initiatives and social media for all 24 Johns Hopkins athletic programs.
Johns Hopkins has hosted numerous NCAA, Big Ten and Centennial Conference Championships during Larossa's tenure. He was also a member of the Executive Committee of Lax4Baltimore, the local organizing committee for the 2003, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2011 and 2014 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships in Baltimore.
Larossa is a 1991 graduate of Elizabethtown College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with concentrations in public relations and mass communications. He interned in the University of Delaware Sports Information office upon graduation while also serving as the Public Relations Director of the Yankee Conference (now the CAA).
Larossa left Delaware in March 1992 to become the Sports Information Director at Drew University, where he spent two years before relocating to the Baltimore area. He then spent more than two years as the Sports Information Director at Shepherd College before coming to Johns Hopkins in September 1997.
Larossa and his wife, Kim, reside in Perry Hall, MD and have two daughters, Katelyn and Hailey, and one son, Ryan.
