Top-Ranked Salisbury Hands Blue Jays A 3-0 Loss

Sept. 27, 2001

Salisbury, MD - Jill Cressor scored two goals, each on an assist from Marie Brewington, to lead No. 1-ranked Salisbury University to a 3-0 win over Johns Hopkins in field hockey action Thursday afternoon.

Tara Webster put the Sea Gulls in front with 2:48 left in the first half when she scored off a pass from Melissa Webster. However, despite out-playing the Blue Jays, Salisbury could not put the game away until late. Hopkins goalkeeper Missi Schafhauser (Haddon Heights, NJ/Haddon Heights) kept the Blue Jays in the game by making a career-high 40 saves, including one on a second half penalty stroke.

Cressor and Brewington teamed up for two goals in the final 4:14 of the contest to give Salisbury the 3-0 win. The Sea Gulls held a 62-3 advantage in shots and a 29-0 advantage in penalty corners.

Hopkins, which has lost four straight games, the last three by shutouts, will look to snap its losing streak on Saturday when the Blue Jays travel to Dickinson for a 12 noon matchup with the Red Devils.
