BALTIMORE - Emily Schneck scored off an assist from Lauren Guzman and the York College defense did not allow a shot on goal in the second half as the Spartans held off Johns Hopkins, 1-0, in field hockey action Tuesday afternoon at Homewood Field.
The Blue Jays had several quality scoring chances in the first half, including two shots by senior midfielder Beth Pollock (Cleveland Heights, OH/Cleveland Heights), but could not get a shot past York goalkeeper Heidi Duthey, who posted her second shutout in as many games.
York dominated the second half, out-shooting Hopkins, 8-0, and recording nine penalty corners, but JHU goalkeeper Missi Schafhauser (Haddon Heights, NJ/Haddon Heights) made six saves to keep the Blue Jays in the game. Schafhauser collected eight saves in the game.
York, which defeated Hopkins, 3-0, last season, was led by Guzman, who recorded four shots. Schneck added three for the Spartans, while Amy Surfass and Natalie Mowery each had two.
Johns Hopkins returns to action on Saturday when the Blue Jays open Centennial Conference play by hosting Haverford at 7 p.m.
