Hopkins Falls To Lynchburg, 2-1, In Double Overtime

Oct. 27, 2002

Baltimore, MD - Lynchburg forward Linda Jack scored with 3:19 left in the second overtime period to give the No. 10 Hornets a 2-1 win over No. 18 Johns Hopkins in field hockey action Sunday afternoon at Homewood Field.

Lynchburg improved to 14-2 with the victory, while the Blue Jays fell to 10-6.

With time winding down in the second overtime, Jack intercepted a pass and blasted a shot on goal. JHU senior goalkeeper Missi Schafhauser (Haddon Heights, NJ/Haddon Heights), who finished with five saves, got a pad on it, but the ball caromed into the cage to end the game.

Jack, who recorded her 16th and 17th goals of the season, gave Lynchburg the lead at the 18:31 mark of the first half when she scored off a feed from Lindsey Streeter. The Blue Jays tied the game with 2:18 left in the period when junior forward Rachel Callaway (Ardmore, PA/Lower Merion) took a pass from freshman midfielder Meighan Roose (York, ME/York) and beat Hornet goalkeeper Joanne Yednock.

After an evenly-played second half, Hopkins dominated the first overtime, out-shooting Lynchburg, 7-1, but could not put a shot past Yednock, who ended the game with 18 saves. The Blue Jays held a 19-10 advantage in shots and a 19-7 edge in corners, and junior forward Jenny Farrelly (Clinton Township, NJ/North Hunterdon) missed a penalty shot early in the contest.

The Blue Jays host McDaniel College Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a key Centennial Conference matchup. The game marks JHU's final regular season home game of the year.
