Box Score

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Sophomore running back Adam Cook (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock) rushed for a career-high 174 yards and one touchdown and Johns Hopkins pounded out 252 yards on the ground as the Blue Jays kept alive their hopes a grabbing a share of the Centennial Conference Championship with a 17-10 win over Dickinson. The win is Hopkins first against the Red Devils since 1996 and improves the Blue Jays' record to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the Centennial Conference. Dickinson falls to 3-5, 1-3.

Cook, whose 174-yard effort is tied for the 17th-highest single-game total in school history, capped an eight-play, 69-yard drive with an eight-yard touchdown run with 33 seconds remaining in the first half to tie the game at 10-10. After the teams battled through a scoreless third quarter, Hopkins put together the game-winning drive early in the fourth quarter. After forcing a Dickinson punt, the Blue Jays drove 71 yards in 10 plays and freshman T.J. Lyons (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) finished the drive with a nine-yard run to give Hopkins the 17-10 lead.

Dickinson never seriously challenged in the fourth quarter as the Blue Jays forced a punt and came up with two interceptions in the final eight minutes to seal the win.

The Red Devils took a 3-0 lead on a 29-yard field goal by Drew Magyar (Morrisville, PA/Pennsbury) midway through the first quarter. Dickinson opened the game with a 16-play, 57-yard drive that was capped by Magyar's field goal. Hopkins answered right back with a nine-play, 45-yard drive the culminated with a 32-yard field goal by Chris Smolyn (Randolph, NJ/Lenape Valley).

The game remained tied at 3-3 until late in the second quarter when Dickinson sophomore Kevin Kozup (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) scored on a five-yard run with 3:14 remaining in the first half. That lead lasted only 2:41 before Cook tied it with his eight-yard scoring run.

Cook, whose previous career-high rushing effort was a 120-yard performance against third-ranked Bridgewater last season in his first career start, also had a career-best 201 all-purpose yards as he had two punt returns for 27 yards as well. Lyons rushed 16 times for 64 yards and the one score to help lead the ground game for the Blue Jays. The Hopkins defense limited Dickinson to just 74 yards of total offense in the second half and was led by senior Mike Little's (Red Bank, NJ/Middletown South) 14 tackles. Little went over the 200-tackle mark in his career and now has 212 to his credit. Junior Rich Lamour (Spring Valley, NY/Don Bosco) and sophomore Matt Campbell (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) came up with the interceptions late in the game to secure the victory.

Kozup rushed 22 times for 117 yards and the one touchdown, but was held to just 23 yards on eight carries in the second half. Matt Reisig (Reading, PA/Reading Central Catholic) added 54 yards on 10 carries for the Devils, while quarterbacks Keven Williams (Turnersville, NJ/Washington Township) and George Gonzalez (Howell, NJ/Howell) combined to go 4-of-13 for 53 yards and both threw an interception.

Johns Hopkins will look to keep its Centennial Conference title hopes alive when the Blue Jays play at Franklin & Marshall next Saturday. Dickinson will host Gettysburg next Saturday.
