Kreider, who finished with game-highs of 18 points and four steals, was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, while JHU senior forward Steve Adams (Butler, PA/Butler) was named to the All-Tournament Team. Also making the team were Jason Morris and Sean Devins of Trinity, Justin Call of Emory & Henry, and Steven Holder of Elmhurst.
The Blue Jays led 47-42 with 3:06 left after a three-pointer by Kreider, but Devins hit two free throws with 2:41 remaining and added a jumper at the 1:15 mark to cut the Hopkins lead to one. After a miss by Kreider, Morris gave the Tigers the lead with a foul line jump shot, and JHU senior guard Dan Burruss (Glenn Dale, MD/DeMatha) missed a three-pointer from the corner with six seconds remaining.
Devins grabbed the rebound but stepped on the baseline, giving the Blue Jays another chance. The ball was inbounded to Adams, who found Kreider along the baseline for the game-winning shot. Trinity had one second remaining, but the Tigers' inbounds pass hit the rafters above the floor, and Hopkins indounded the ball to end the game.
Adams scored 11 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds for the Blue Jays, while senior guard Brendan Kamm (Avon, NJ/Somerville) chipped in seven. Devins led the Tigers with 13 points and nine rebounds, and forward Adam Luton scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds.
The game remained close early, until a 10-2 run by Trinity gave the Tigers a 25-16 lead with 55 seconds left in the first half. Burruss hit a three-pointer and sophomore forward Eric Toback (Ellicott City, MD/Mount Hebron) nailed two free throws to cut the lead to four, and Morris made one foul shot to put Trinity ahead 26-21 at the break.
Hopkins opened the second half on a 9-1 run to take a 30-27 lead at the 16:40 mark and did not trail until the last-minute shot by Morris. Three times the Blue Jays opened up a six-point lead, but Trinity stayed within range until its late comeback.
