After a closely contested first half in which there were nine lead changes, Gettysburg took a 24-22 lead into halftime on a Kyle Jakobe three-pointer with four seconds remaining in the half. The Bullets extended their advantage to 40-31 with 13:32 remaining, but the Blue Jays answered with a 12-0 win over the next four minutes to take a 43-40 lead.
Senior forward Jay Kreider (Sykesville, MD/River Hill), who scored a career-high 26 points in the game, hit a three-pointer at the 11:56 mark to cut the Gettysburg lead to six, and after a Bullet turnover JHU sophomore forward Marc Leone (Radnor, PA/Radnor) hit a three-pointer to make it a 40-37 game with 11:10 left.
Less than a minute later Hopkins senior forward Steve Adams (Butler, PA/Butler) found Kreider for a three-pointer to tie the game, and following a Bullet timeout, Kreider hit another three-pointer off an assist from Adams with 9:26 remaining to give the Blue Jays their first lead of the half.
However, Gettysburg would go on a 17-0 run over the next six minutes to take a commanding 57-43 advantage with 3:31 left. Dami Oloruntoba started the spurt with a three-pointer to tie the game and added two free throws at the 7:16 mark to give the Bullets the lead for good.
Todd Brady added a lay-up and two free throws for Gettysburg to make it a six-point game, and David Glaser and Oloruntoba hit consecutive three-pointers to give the Bullets a 55-43 lead with 3:36 left. Glaser capped the run with two free throws, and Hopkins could not cut the deficit below 11 the rest of the way.
