No. 22 Blue Jays Hold Off Dickinson, 80-68

Baltimore, MD - Johns Hopkins senior forward Steve Adams (Butler, PA/Butler) scored 21 points and senior forward Jay Kreider (Sykesville, MD/River Hill) added 19 as the No. 22 Blue Jays defeated Dickinson, 80-68, Wednesday night in Goldfarb Gymnasium.

Hopkins improved to 12-3 overall and 3-1 in Centennial Conference play, while the Red Devils fell to 4-10 overall and 0-4 in the league.

The Blue Jays trailed 37-36 at the half, but a three-point play by Kreider put Hopkins ahead 47-46 with 14:06 remaining, and JHU would not trail again. Hopkins extended its lead to 59-51 on a free throw by Adams at the 8:45 mark, but Dickinson responded with an 11-3 run, capped by a three-pointer by Brad Litchfield, to tie the game at 62-62 with 6:15 to go.

However, JHU sophomore forward Eric Toback (Ellicott City, MD/Mount Hebron) put the Blue Jays back on top by hitting a three-pointer off an assist from senior guard Brendan Kamm (Avon, NJ/Somerville), and junior guard Matt Righter (Clarion, PA/Lawrenceville Prep) added a three-pointer to put Hopkins up 68-62 with 4:37 remaining.

Dickinson guard Billy Hagan hit two free throws to bring the Red Devils within two at 70-68 with 2:29 to play, but the Blue Jays would score the last 10 points of the game to pull away late. Righter, who finished with 16 points and hit 4-of-9 three-point attempts, nailed a three to increase the JHU lead to five, and Kreider added two free throws to make it a 75-68 game with 58 seconds left. Righter and Kreider each added two free throws and senior center Mike Blaine (Washington, DC/Bishop Ireton) added one to account for the final score.

Toback finished with 10 points and six rebounds for the Blue Jays, while Blaine added eight points and a team-high nine boards. Kamm dished out a team-best six assists for Hopkins, which won its fifth straight game.

Litchfield led all scorers with 24 points and hit 6-of-9 from behind the arc for Dickinson, while Hagan added 15 and George Alafonginis chipped in 13. Jon Schwadron, the league's leading rebounder, scored seven points and pulled down a game-high 14 boards.

The Blue Jays return to action Satuday when they travel to Westminster, MD, to face McDaniel at 3 p.m.
