Baltimore, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 7-1 lead and did not look back in posting an 8-4 win over Pennsylvania Tuesday afternoon at Homewood Field.

The Blue Jays won their second straight and improved to 2-1 on the season, while the Quakers lost their second in a row to fall to 1-2 on the year.

Hopkins put the game away early, taking a 5-0 lead in the first 15:34 of the contest. Sophomore midfielder Anne Crisafulli (Garden City, NY/Garden City) scored the first of her game-high two goals only 2:51 into the game, and just 35 seconds later junior attacker Heidi Pearce (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew's) made it a 2-0 game when she scored off an assist from senior attacker Meghan Burnett (Auburn, NY/Auburn).

Senior midfielder Erinn Dennis (Wilton, NY/Saratoga Springs) gave Hopkins a three-goal lead with an unassisted goal at the 21:05 mark, and only 30 seconds later freshman attacker Sarah Walsh (Port Washington, NY/P.D. Schreiber) increased the lead to 4-0 with an unassisted tally.

JHU junior midfielder Kate Barcomb (Middlebury, VT/Middlebury) scored the Blue Jays' fifth goal with 14:26 to play in the half, but just 37 seconds later Whitney Horton put Penn on the board with an unassisted goal to cut the lead to 5-1. However, Burnett again made it a five-goal game by scoring on a free position shot at the 2:23 mark of the period, and Hopkins took a 6-1 lead into halftime.

Blue Jay freshman attacker Lauren Dean (Centreville, MD/Queen Anne's County) opened the second half scoring with a goal off an assist from Pearce with 21:19 remaining, and after Chelsea Kaden answered for the Quakers at the 19:42 mark, Crisafulli scored her second goal of the game with 13:28 left when her pass intended for Pearce went straight into the cage.

Crissy Book scored just 14 seconds later to cut Penn's deficit to 8-3, and Lindsey Cassidy concluded the scoring at the 12:26 mark with a free position goal.

Penn out-shot Hopkins, 22-20, including 15-8 in the second half, but JHU senior goalkeeper Jen McDonald (Garden City, NY/Garden City) made eight saves to hold off the Quakers. The Blue Jay defense was led by junior Rachel Krom (Summit, NJ/Summit), who collected a game-high nine of JHU's 43 ground balls, while sophomore Lacey-Leigh Hentz (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) picked up five ground balls and caused five turnovers.

Penn goalkeeper Alaina Harper made seven saves for the Quakers, who won 11 of 14 draw controls.

The Blue Jays return to action Friday when Hopkins travels to Columbus, OH, to face No. 18 Ohio State at 7 p.m. in its first American Lacrosse Conference game of the season. JHU will then take on Ohio University Sunday in Athens, OH at 12 noon.
