Salisbury, MD - Brittany Elliott scored three goals and added an assist while Lindsey Elliott also scored three times as the No. 3 Salisbury field hockey team defeated Johns Hopkins, 8-1, Wednesday afternoon.
Brittany Elliott opened the scoring with a goal off an assist from Melissa Webster with 17:20 remaining in the first half and assisted on a goal by Lindsey Elliott just 1:21 later to make it a 2-0 game. Brittany Elliott then scored off a feed from Erin Budd with 7:07 left to give the Sea Gulls, who improved to 5-0 with the victory, a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Budd again fed Brittany Elliott for a goal with 25:53 left in the game, and Lindsey Elliott added consecutive unassisted goals to give Salisbury a 6-0 advantage with 20:11 remaining. Ashley Butler scored an unassisted tally with 10:31 to play before JHU junior forward Kate Mandel (Wellesley, MA/Wellesley) got the Blue Jays on the board by scoring off a pass from sophomore forward Caite Kappel (Pittsburgh, PA/Sewickley Academy) with 6:06 left. Lynette Sgrignoli capped the scoring with an unassisted goal with 1:57 on the clock.
JHU sophomore goalkeeper Meredith Shifman (South Orange, NJ/Columbia) played the first half, allowing three goals and making four saves, while freshman Dayna Eng (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) allowed five goals and made four saves in the second half. Sea Gulls goalkeeper Melissa Taylor stopped just two shots, as Salisbury held a 24-5 shot advantage.
Hopkins, which fell to 2-3 on the year, travels to Catholic Sunday for a 1 p.m. game with the Cardinals.
