Dickinson Slips Past Blue Jays 4-2 In Field Hockey

BALTIMORE, MD - Sophomore Katie Austin scored three goals off penalty corners from senior Emily Greenlee in a 4-2 Dickinson win over the Johns Hopkins field hockey team at Homewood Field. The Blue Jays (3-10 overall, 0-5 Centennial) tied the game 2-2 in the second half before Austin scored the game-winner two minutes later for the Red Devils (8-5 overall, 5-1 Centennial).

Johns Hopkins out-shot Dickinson 5-3 in the first half but the Red Devils converted both of their penalty corners for an early 2-0 lead. Greenlee set up Austin for the goals with 27:16 and 25:46 left on the clock.

The Blue Jays got on the board with 29 seconds remaining in the half when they scored off their third penalty corner. Junior Meighan Roose (Baltimore, MD/York) set up sophomore Leah Dudley (Westborough, MA/Westborough) and Hopkins trailed 2-1 at the break.

Senior Anna Rehwinkel (Princeton Junction, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro) knotted the game 2-2 when she knocked in a rebounded shot past Dickinson goalkeeper Tara McFadden with just over 31 minutes to play.

The Red Devils earned six penalty corners in the second half and converted one the same way they did their first two. Greenlee set up Austin for the go-ahead goal and Austin's third of the game as Dickinson took a 3-2 lead with 29:11 on the clock.

Jenny Portillo scored the final goal off Erika Zavada's assist in a scramble in front of the box with 9:59 remaining.

The teams finished even in shots with 11 apiece while Dickinson edged Johns Hopkins in penalty corners 8-5.

Junior Meredith Shifman (South Orange, NJ/Columbia) played the first half in goal for Hopkins and sophomore Dayna Eng (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) had three saves in the second half. McFadden finished with five saves for the Red Devils.

Johns Hopkins hosts Haverford in another conference game this Saturday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m.
